TS-9 Project

Postby 2tone » Tue Mar 09, 2010 9:37 pm

Hi All!
After having done a couple of Monte Allums mods I have officially gotten the pedal modification bug. My latest idea is to put the guts of my re-issue TS-9 into another case so that I can drill holes in it to my hearts content (I can also tell everyone that it is a super secret custom pedal) The nice folks here at PPP suggested the 1590 enclosure for this effort. Any advice on how to proceed with my project would be greatly appreciated. I do also have some questions.

1) How do I mount the circuit board in this enclosure (do I need any special parts)?
2) I will order a DPDT footswitch; this should be all I need to make it a true bypass, yes?
3) I would like to add a "tri-mode" distortion circuit with the middle position being stock. I will be doing LED's on one leg of the switch, any opinions regarding diodes, etc. for the other side of the switch?
4) Are there any good tone mods out there? Bass Boost, Mid Cut, etc.?
5) Any other mod ideas?

The only mod that I have done on the pedal so far is Monte's basic "Brown" TS-9 kit

Thanks a Bunch!

Hello I will say my opinions on your questions:
1) Considering the size of the circuit board you'll probably have to use the "free Floating technique" but PPP does sell adhesive stand-offs if you want to drill holes in the board. I've even seen people build metal brackets to hold PCBs in place.
2) A DPDT footswitch is the only thing you need to make the pedal true bypass. However if you want an LED indicator you will either have to use a 3PDT footswitch or add a Millenium I, Millenium II or Rat bypass circuit to the DPDT footswitch. I'd recomend Millenium II if you wanted an LED with a DPDT footswitch because it is the most recently developed circuits so it is not supposed to have the shortcomings of the Millenium 1 or Rat bypass.
3) If you wanted stock in the middle a SP3T could do that but it would be cheaper to use a SPDT ON-OFF-ON switch if you didn't mind having stock off to the side. However this would require the center to be a no diode mod which would be a very nice addition to Stock and LED series clipping diode tones.
4) Haven't tried any
5) Could try some switchable parallel clipping diodes so you could have the option of sounding more like a RAT, MXR Distortion Plus of Ross R-50!
